Swanson Earns All-Academic Honors in Track and Field for Second Year in a Row

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University track and field athlete Hannah Swanson (Jr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) has been chosen for the 2016-17 NCAA Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team as selected by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Student-athletes earned the award through academic and athletic success.

Each All-Academic athlete recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher (4.0 scale), while either competing at the NCAA Division III Championships or by finishing the regular season ranked in the top 50 nationally in an individual event or in the top 35 in a relay event.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for women's track and field included 608 athletes from 142 NCAA Division III institutions.

Hannah Swanson (So., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) Hannah Swanson (Jr.) received USTFCCCA All-Academic status in track and field for the second year in a row. She concluded the 2017 season ranked 45th in the nation in the 1500-meter run with a top time of 4:37.33 at the Oregon State University High Performance Meet. Swanson, who is majoring in Biology at Willamette, will be senior next season.

A year ago, Swanson participated in the NCAA Division III Championships in the 1,500-meter run. She took 13th place with a time of 4:35.68.

She earned her personal record time of 4:33.03 at the Portland Twilight on May 5, 2016. She holds fifth place in the 1,500-meter run on Willamette's all-time list.

At the 2017 Northwest Conference Championships, Swanson placed seventh in the 800-meter run. In 2015 and 2016, she took second place in the 1,5000-meter run at the NWC Championships. She was sixth in the NWC in the 800-meter run in 2015.
