Duenas is Selected as NWC Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Hope Duenas (So., Covina, CA/Covina HS) of Willamette University has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week for her performances at the Chico State Invitational on Saturday, March 10. Duenas earned second place finishes in the discus and the hammer throw.

Duenas registered a top throw of 130' 1" in the discus, as she missed first place by less than a foot. She placed second in the hammer after achieving a mark of 142' 10".

It is the second consecutive week that Duenas has received the NWC Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week award. She also received the honor after winning the discus and taking second place in the hammer at the Willamette Opener on March 3.

The Willamette track and field teams will compete in the Willamette vs. Corban Dual from Tuesday, March 13 through Thursday, March 15 at Charles Bowles Track. On Tuesday, the heptathlon and decathlon will get underway, with the first event set for 3 p.m. (PDT). On Wednesday, the heptathlon and decathlon will continue through the final events. Also on Wednesday, the men's hammer and women's hammer will take place behind the Math Learning Center at 1850 Oxford Street.

Action on Thursday will return to Charles Bowles Track, with field events starting at 3:30 p.m. (PDT) and running events starting at 3:40 p.m. The final running events of the day will be the women's 4 x 400-meter relay and the men's 4 x 400-meter relay, with the women's race starting at 6:10 p.m. and the men's race set for 6:15 p.m.
