Beckmann is 2nd in Decathlon after Five Events at NWC Multi-Event Meet

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Willamette University track and field athlete Keaton Beckmann (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) was in second place in the decathlon after five events during the first day of the Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships at Whitworth University on Monday, April 9. Alex Canchola of George Fox University held first place with 3,530 points. Beckmann followed with 3,470 points, and Keaton Wood from Linfield College was third with 3,387 points. Brian Peck (So., Reno, NV/Reno HS) of Willamette was 10th with 3,155 points.

In the heptathlon, Annie Wright of George Fox led the way after four events with 2,981 points. Dakota Buhler of GFU was second at 2,772 and Isabel Clark of Whitworth was third at 2,755. Willamette's Melissa Scott (So., Tustin, CA/Beckman HS) was 12th with 2,232 points. Grace Crookham-Guy (Fr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) of Willamette was 15th at 1,967.

Beckmann scored at least 700 points in three events on Monday. He earned 817 points in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.94 seconds. He registered 789 points in the 100-meter dash in 11.13 seconds, and tallied 700 points in the long jump with a leap of 21' 4.25". Beckmann cleared 5' 10" in the high jump and recorded a top mark of 36' 6.75" in the shot put.

Along the way, Beckmann was second in the 100-meter dash by 0.07, took fourth in the long jump but was just 4.5 inches out of first, and finished second in the 400-meter dash by 0.06.

Top scores for Peck were 721 points in the 100-meter dash and 693 points in the 400-meter dash. His time in the 100 was 11.65 seconds. He was timed at 52.74 seconds in the 400.

In the heptathlon, Scott achieved a score of 689 points in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.21 seconds. She added 577 points by clearing 4' 9.50" in the high jump.

The NWC Mult-Event Championships will conclude on Tuesday, April 10. The decathlon events on Tuesday will be the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500-meter run. Events on Tuesday in the heptathlon will be the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
