Duenas Wins Flight, Finishes 8th Overall, in Weight Throw at Cougar Indoor Meet

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Hope Duenas (Jr., Covina, CA/Covina HS) of Willamette University won her flight and placed eighth overall out of 26 competitors in the women's weight throw on the first day of the Cougar Indoor Invitational at Washington State University on Friday, Feb. 1. Willamette's Saige Swan (Jr., Crescent City, CA/Del Norte HS) was third in his heat and finished 11th overall out of 24 athletes in the men's weight throw. The Cougar Indoor Invitational will continue on Saturday.

Also for the Bearcats, Jeidah DeZurney (So., Brownsville, OR/Lebanon HS) recorded a top distance of 34' 1.50" in the women's weight throw. In the women's 5,00-meter run, Emily Evans (Sr., Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage HS) of Willamette was timed at 20:10.45 and teammate Risa Shutz (So., Redmond, WA/Redmond HS) earned a time of 20:53.15 in the women's 5,000-meter run. Kellen Bulger (Jr., Spokane, WA/Ferris HS) registered a time of 17:22.01 for WU in the men's 5,000-meter run.

The Bearcats will compete in a total nine men's evens and eight women's events on Saturday.
