Beckmann Wins Long Jump, Takes 2nd in 200-meter Dash, at WSU Indoor Meet

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Keaton Beckmann (So., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) of Willamette University won the men's long jump at 22' 7.25" and was second in the men's 200-meter dash in 23.25 seconds during the final day of the Cougar Indoor Invitational at Washington State University on Saturday, Feb. 2. Connor Giannini (Jr., Veradale, WA/Gonzaga Prep) of Willamette took third place in the men's 200-meter dash at 23.43 seconds.

Beckmann prevailed in the long jump by more than 1 1/2 feet over Silas Newby from Seattle Pacific University, who placed second at 20' 10.75". Brian Peck (Jr., Reno, NV/Reno HS) of Willamette was 11th at 19' 9.75". In the 200-meter dash, Beckman was 0.28 behind the winner, JJ Curry from Community Colleges of Spokane. Curry's time was 22.97 seconds.

Michael Montague (Jr., San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) earned a close second place finish for the Bearcats in the men's mile run. He completed the race in 4:23.76. Kyler Sager of Western Washington University won the mile in 4:22.63, just 1.13 in front of Montague.

In the men's 3,000-meter run, WU's Keith Carlson (Sr., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) took seventh place with a time of 9:01.56. Saige Swan (So., Crescent City, CA/Del Norte HS) was seventh in the men's shot put at 45' 5". Matt Ihling (Fr., Boise, ID/Capital HS) was 16th out of 32 runners in the men's 800-meter run. He registered a time of 2:03.31.

For the Willamette women's team, Isabel Duxbury (So., Seattle, WA/University Prep) placed 11th in the 800-meter run at 2:24.87. Brittany Broughton (Jr., Fort Worth, TX/Boswell HS) joined three athletes in a tie for 10th place in the high jump after clearing 4' 11".

Hazel Carr (Sr., Seattle, WA/The Northwest School) of WU completed the women's mile run in 5:34.39 to take 16th place out of 33 runners.

The Bearcats will start the 2019 outdoor season by hosting the Willamette Opener on Saturday, March 2. Action is set to begin at Charles Bowles Track at 10 a.m. (PST).
