Peck Earns 6th in Decathlon, Schnee is 11th in Heptathlon, at Pacific Multi-Event

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Willamette University track and field athlete Brian Peck (Jr., Reno, NV/Reno HS) ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.19 seconds and completed the 1,500-meter run in 4:42.96, on his way to taking sixth place out of 18 competitors in the final decathlon standings, as the Pacific Multi-Event concluded on Tuesday, March 26. Adrian Schnee (Fr., Kalispell, MT/Glacier HS) of Willamette achieved 11th place out of 26 athletes participating in the heptathlon.

Peck's overall score in the decathlon was a personal record of 5,884 points. He broke his previous best score of 5,747 points, set at the 2018 Northwest Conference Championships. Schnee, competing in her first heptathlon for the Bearcats, registered a score of 3,823.

On Tuesday, Peck's time in the 110-meter hurdles earned him fourth place in the event plus 711 points for his highest score during the competition. He gained 662 points for his time in the 1,500-meter run. Also on Tuesday, he was fifth in the javelin throw with a top distance of 142' 2" and took sixth in the discus throw at 103' 11". He was seventh in the 1,500. Overall, he placed in the top seven in seven events.

Michael Schmidt of Corban University won the decathlon with a score of 6,666 points. He was first in the 100-meter dash (11.14 seconds) and the 400-meter dash (50.98 seconds). He grabbed second place in the long jump (21' 6.75"), high jump (6' 0") and pole vault (14' 7.25").

Following Schmidt in the decathlon standings were Giovanni Brown of Concordia University (Ore.) in second place with 6,505 points, J.J. Walker from Clackamas Community College in third at 6,237, and Reagan Shira of Corbna in fourth at 6,197. Josh Schultz of Saint Martin's University was fifth at 5,969, with Peck in sixth place at 5,884.

Schnee's top-scoring event on Tuesday was the 800-meter run, as she registered 640 points with a time of 2:34.27. She placed seventh in the event. She as sixth in the long jump with a top leap of 16' 4.50". On Monday, she placed sixth in the high jump

The heptathlon was won by Paige Dodd from Eastern Oregon University with a score of 4,503. She won the high jump at 5' 3.25", was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.10 seconds, and also placed second in the long jump at 16' 11.25".

Valerie Schmidt of Corban took second place in the heptathlon with 4,383 points. Olivia Lane of Eastern Oregon was third at 4,247, Loghan Sprauer from Southern Oregon University was fourth at 2,23, Chase Stephens of Concordia was fifth at 4,212, and Maya Murphy-Cook from University of Portland was sixth at 4,191.

Willamette will send a group of athletes to compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday, March 29. The Distance Carnival will be held at Chabot College in Hayward, California, while construction continues at the SFSU stadium and track facility.
