Montague Sets Personal Record in 1,500-meter Run at GFU Meet

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Michael Montague (Jr., San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) of Willamette University set a personal record in the men's 1,500-meter run during the George Fox NCAA Final Qualifier on Thursday, May 16 at Stoffer Family Stadium. Montague completed the 1,500 in 3:56.64, lowering his personal record by 0.46 from his time of 3:57.10 at this year's John Knight Twilight on April 5.

Montague put together a strong track and field season for the Bearcats. In addition to setting a personal record in the 1,500-meter run, he also set personal marks in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run. His top time in the steeplechase of 9:27.71 was earned at the 2019 Northwest Conference Championships on April 26. He registered his best time in the 5,000 at 14:57.14 during the Mike Fanelli Track Classic (formerly San Francisco State Distance Carnival) on March 29.

In addition, Montague was this year's NWC champion in the 1,500-meter run. He also placed second in the 5,000-meter run at the NWC Championships and was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
