Logsdon Scores 15 Points as Bearcats Zoom Past Boxers, 64-37

SALEM, Ore. -- Elizabeth Logsdon (Jr., F, McMinnville, OR/McMinnville HS) scored a career-high 15 points and Willamette University played great defense, as the Bearcats routed Pacific University, 64-37, in Northwest Conference action at Cone Field House on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Amanda Carpenter (So., G, Beaverton, OR/Sunset HS) and Britanny Kochenderfer (Sr., G, Klamath Falls, OR/Henley HS/Idaho State Univ.) each added 14 points for the Bearcats.

Willamette improved to 10-12 on the season, 5-8 in the NWC. Pacific dropped to 7-15 overall, 1-12 in the NWC.

Kochenderfer ended the game with a double-double. In addition to scoring 14 points, she hauled down 11 rebounds. She was 5 of 7 from the field, including 3 for 3 on 3-point shots. She also blocked three shots and had two assists.

Logsdon was 7 of 11 on field goals, and finished with seven boards. Drew Farmer (Jr., PG, Brookings, OR/Brookings-Harbor HS) scored eight points, while Madison Ballard (Fr., G, Monroe, OR/Monroe HS) and Avery Mickelsen (Fr., C, Ephrata, WA/Ephrata HS) scored six ponts apiece. Carpenter and Farmer each supplied five assists for the Bearcats.

For Pacific, Courtney Carolan produced 14 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot. No other Boxer scored more than four points. Liana Tanaka grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and also recorded two steals.

The Bearcat shot 48.2% for the game (27 of 56), including 57.1% in the third quarter (8 of 14) and 58.3% in the fourth quarter (7 of 12). Meanwhile, Willamette held the Boxers to 24.6% field goal shooting (14 of 57), including 0 for 15 from 3-point range. Willamette was 5 of 17 on 3-pointers (29.4%). The Bearcats gained a 44-30 rebounding margin.

Carpenter scored the first seven points of the game on a jumper, a 3-pointer and a layup. The lead reached 8-0 when Kochenderfer tacked on 1 of 2 free throws for Willamette with 5:41 left in the quarter. WU grabbed a 12-3 advantage a bit later on a layup by Kochenderfer at the 4:26 mark. Neither team scored again until Tanaka scored a layup for Pacific just four seconds before the quarter ended.

Jumpers by Logsdon and Carpenter increased Willamette's lead to 16-5 with 8:28 left in the second quarter. The teams exchanged baskets for several minutes. Later, Morgan Yamane (Fr., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake HS) made one of two free throws for WU with 3:24 remaining, and Kochenderfer sank a 3-pointer with 2:57 to go, as the Bearcats claimed a 26-13 advantage.

The Boxers got as close as seven points before halftime at 26-19 on a jumper by Naomi Johnson with 41 seconds on the clock. Kochendefer put through a jumper with 13 seconds left to give the Bearcats a 28-19 halftime margin.

In the third quarter, Willamette returned to a 13-point lead at 34-21 on a jumper by Farmer with 5:32 to go. Shelby Holman scored for Pacific at the 4:37 mark, but Farmer tacked on another jumper just 13 seconds later for a 36-23 lead.

Pacific cut the margin to 36-27 when Megan Wesel scored on a layup with 3:25 to go. Willamette countered with a 12-0 run to end the quarter, as the Bearcats grabbed a 48-27 lead after outscoring the Boxers 20-8 during the period. The Bearcats led by as many as 29 points during the fourth quarter.

Willamette will host University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Feb. 9. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. (PST).

Big Moment of the Game for Willamette

Britanny Kochenderfer helped the Bearcats begin a big 12-0 run
to close out the third quarter by hitting back-to-back 3-pointers.
She swished the first 3-pointer with 3:03 left to give WU a 39-27
lead. She added the second 3-pointer at the 2:23 mark to increase
the margin to 42-27. When the 12-0 run ended, the Bearcats held
a 48-27 advantage entering the final quarter.
