Bearcats Finish First Day at NWC Championship

PORTLAND, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's golf team completed the first day of competition at the Northwest Conference Championship at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, April 24. Willamette held eighth place in the team standings. Whitworth University was the overall team leader by four strokes over George Fox University in second.

Haylee Chung (Fr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) registered the lowest score for the Bearcats. She recorded an 86 to position herself in an five-way tie for 15th place.

Emily Guthrie of Whitworth University was the overall leader after carding an 80. Guthrie owned a one-stroke lead over Tate Head of Whitman College.

Serena Cualoping (Fr., Manila, Philippines, International School) shot a 96 for Willamette. The freshman is tied for 39th place overall.

In the team standings, Linfield College shot a 339 for third place. Whitman College carded a 344 to position themselves in fourth place. The University of Puget Sound trails Whitman by just one stroke, at 345. Pacific University is not far behind in sixth at 349. The top six teams are all within 17 strokes of each other.

Pacific Lutheran University is in seventh place with a score of 370. The Bearcats shot 418 for the day. Lewis & Clark is in ninth place after shooting 465.

The Bearcats will conclude the NWC Championship and the 2009-10 season tomorrow, Sunday, April 25 in Portland, Ore.
