Bearcats Finish in Second Place at Willamette Invitational

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University took second place in the team standings at the Willamette Invitational in women's golf, hosted by the Bearcats on Monday, March 15 at the Illahe Hills Country Club. Linfield College earned the team title with an 18-hole score of 350, while Willamette followed with a score 402. Corban College placed third at 414 and Lewis & Clark College was fourth at 464.

Hailey Thomas of Corban won the individual championship with a score of 85. She won by one stroke over Linfield golfers Brinn Hovde and Brittany Johnston, who each carded an 86. Rebecca Langer from Lewis & Clark claimed fourth place with an 87.

Three competitors tied for fifth place. They were Haylee Chung (Fr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) of Willamette, Sophie Corr from Linfield and Katie Kilborn of Linfield, all with an 89.

Serena Cualoping (Fr., Manila, Philippines/International School) from WU and Meghan Crowder of Linfield tied for eight place, as each golfer carded a 90. Morgan McComish of Corban took 10th place with a 93.

Chung and Cualoping provided the top two scores toward Willamette's team total. Also competing for the Bearcats were Tanya Schiller (Sr., South Bend, WA/South Bend HS) and Jayleen Morris (Sr., Waldport, OR/Waldport HS).

Willamette will return to action April 10-11 at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic. The event will be held in Yakima, Wash., at the Apple Tree Golf Course.
