Bearcats Finish Third at GFU Women's Invitational

NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University took third place in the team standings at the George Fox Women's Invitational at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 19. The start of the tournament was delayed due to heavy traffic on the course, but a complete round was eventually played by all of the entries.

George Fox University won the team title with a score of 336. Linfield College placed second at 358, with Willamette in third at 440. Lewis & Clark College finished fourth with a score of 468.

Brianna Nap of GFU won medalist honors by five strokes. She recorded a 4-over-par 76, while teammate Mandy Cameron took second with an 81. GFU claimed the top four finishers, with Kelsey Morrison in third at 85 and Jill Westendorf in fourth with an 86. Three golfers from Linfield tied for fifth place with scores of 89.

Willamette's Alex Johnson (So., Salem, OR/Blanchet Catholic School) tied for eighth place at 91. Haylee Chung (Fr., Hilo, HI/Hili HS) of WU placed 18th with a score of 102.

The Bearcats will return to action on Sept. 26-27 at the Pacific Invitational. The tournament is scheduled to be held at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore., starting at 12 p.m. (PDT).
