Weinhold Wins Medalist Honors at Linfield Three-Way

Smith Takes Second Place

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman golfer Mckenzie Weinhold (Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno) took first place at the Linfield Three-Way in women's golf on Saturday, Oct. 8. McKenzie shot an 80 at Michelbook Country Club to finish one shot in front of WU teammate Nicole Smith (Fr.), who carded an 81 for second place.

Linfield College won the team title with a score of 339, seven strokes lower than the Bearcats, who placed second at 346. Pacific University took third place with a team score of 396.

Danielle Lungren of Linfield took third place behind Willamette's top two golfers. Lungren shot 83 for the course to finish one shot in front of teammate Alexandria Smith of Linfield, who placed fourth with an 84. Fifth place was a tie at 86 between two more Linfield golfers, Hannah Christianson and Brinn Hovde.

Weinhold and Smith led the Bearcats. Also competing for Willamette were Mele Ana Kastner (Fr., Vancouver, WA/Columbia River HS), Jenny Grauberger (Fr., Port Townsend, WA/Port Townsend HS) and Stephanie Swindell (Fr., Brush Prairie, WA/Hockinson HS). Kastner tied for 10th after carding a 91. Grauberger shot 94 and tied for 12th. Swindell finished the day with a 96.

"As a transfer student to Willamette, I am so excited that I was able to win a tournament to start the new season," said Weinhold, who attended the University of Nevada in 2010-11 but did not play for the golf team. "This year will be so great, as all players continue to work on their game and we all get better as a team."

The next competition for the WU women's golf team will be at the George Fox University Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15. The tournament will be held a The Reserve Vineyards Golf Club in Aloha, Ore.
