SALEM, ORE. -- Led by Mckenzie Weinhold (Fr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/U. of Nevada-Reno), who recorded the day's low score with an 84, the Willamette University women's golf team held the lead after the first round of the Salem Collegiate Cup on Monday, March 12.

Willamette recorded a team score of 360 for a 39-stroke lead. Corban University was second at 399. Pacific University, represented by just one golfer, did not have enough competitors for a team score.

Weinhold's 84 gave her a four-stroke lead at the end of the day. Two other Willamette golfers held second and third place, as Nicole Smith (Fr., Portland, OR/Westview HS)carded an 88 and Lettajoe Gallup (Fr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) achieved an 89.

Emily Thorud of Pacific was fourth after earning a 95. Katie Baker and Morgan McComish, both from Corban, were tied for fifth place at 97.

Willamette's team score also included Mele Ana Kastner (Fr., Vancouver, WA/Columbia River HS), who shot a 99 and was in seventh place.
