Bearcats Win Women's Title at Salem Collegiate Cup; Second Day is Canceled

Weinhold Garners Medalist Honors with an 84

SALEM, ORE. -- The second day of the Salem Collegiate Cup, set for Tuesday, March 13 at Illahe Hills Country Club, has been canceled due to wet grounds following rain and snow overnight. As a result, the results form the first day are also the final results, with Willamette University winning the women's team title and Bearcat freshman Mckenzie Weinhold (Fr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/U. of Nevada-Reno) earning medalist honors.

Weinhold carded an 84 during Monday's round at Creeskside Golf Club to win by four strokes. Two other Willamette golfers finished second and third overall, as Nicole Smith (Fr., Portland, OR/Westview HS) carded an 88 and Lettajoe Gallup (Fr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) earned an 89.

Willamette recorded a team score of 360 for a 39-stroke win. Corban University was second at 399. Pacific University, represented by just one golfer, did not have enough competitors for a team score.

Emily Thorud of Pacific took fourth place with a 95. Katie Baker and Morgan McComish, both from Corban, tied for fifth place at 97.

Willamette's team score also included Mele Ana Kastner (Fr., Vancouver, WA/Columbia River HS), who shot a 99 and finished in seventh place.

The Bearcats will return to the links on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Wildhorse Golf Course in Pendleton, Ore. First round action will begin at 8:30 a.m. (PDT) on March 31, with the second round slated to start at 11:30 a.m. on April 1.
