Morrison of George Fox Leads all Golfers with a 75 for a 4-Stroke Lead

WOODBURN, ORE. -- Taneesh Kaur Sra (Fr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) shot an 83 to tie for sixth place after the first round of the Northwest Conference Championship Tournament in women's golf on Saturday, April 20 at the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) Golf Course.

Willamette University was in fourth place in the team standings with a score of 344, just two strokes out of third place.

Kelsey Morrison of George Fox University led all golfers with a 75 in the first round, as she built a four-stroke lead. Emily Guthrie from Whitworth University held second place with a 79, and Nicole Lomax, also from Whitworth, was third with an 80. Kiana Lumanlan of GFU followed in fourth at 81, while Whitney Jammerman of GFU was fifth at 82.

Sra and Abby Mann of George Fox tied for sixth at 83, and Alyssa Maine of Whitman College was eighth with an 84.

George Fox held a 14-stroke lead in the team standings with a score of 321. Whitworth owned second place at 335, while Whitman was third at 342 and Willamette was fourth at 344.

Pacific Lutheran University was fifth at 364, with Pacific University in sixth at 390, Linfield College in seventh at 418 and the University of Puget Sound in eighth at 428.

Morrison and Guthrie were the only golfers to break 80, but 19 of the 37 athletes carded scores from 80 to 90.

All five of Willamette's competitors scored in that range. Sra's 83 led the way, while LettaJoe Gallup (So., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) shot an 86 to tie for 12th place. Elise Levy (Fr., Reno, NV/Bishop Monague HS) registered an 87, Mele Ana Kastner (So., Vancouver, WA/Columbia River HS) earned an 88 and Mckenzie Weinhold (So., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno) scored a 90.

Action at the NWC Championship Tournament will resume on Sunday, April 21, with the second round in the women's competition starting at 9 a.m. (PDT). The final women's group of the tournament will tee off at 10:52 a.m.
