Levy Improves by Six Strokes to Tie for Fourth at Boxer Classic

Willamette Finishes Third after Shooting 332 in the Second Round

BANKS, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman golfer Elise Levy (Fr.) carded a 76 in the second round of the Boxer Classic on Sunday, Sept. 23 to finish the 36-hole event with a score of 158, as she tied for fourth place. Nicole Smith (So., Portland, OR/Westview HS) took 10th place at 168 (84-84). Levy and Smith helped Willamette place third in the team standings.

Levy, who shot an 82 in the first round, lowered her score by six strokes over the final 18 holes. Her 76 on the second day tied for the fourth-best round of the tournament.

George Fox University, which shot 307 as a team in the first round, nearly matched that score in the second round, as the Bruins carded a 308. GFU won the team title with a score of 615.

Whitman College claimed second place at 649 (323-326). Willamette was third at 668 (336-332) and Pacific University was fourth at 803 (380-423).

Kelsey Morrison of George Fox earned medalist honors by 10 strokes. Her winning score of 145 included the low round of the tournament with a 70 on the first day. Morrison shot a 75 for the lowest score of the second round, one stroke better than the 76 recorded by Levy.

The Bruins achieved the top two places on the leaderboard, as Morrison was followed by teammate Whitney Jammerman in second place. Jammerman shot 155 (77-78). Third place went to Taylor Head of Whitman, who carded a 156 (76-80).

Levy tied with Abby Mann from George Fox for fourth place. Mann carded 77-81 to match Levy at 158.

Willamette's five golfers all below 90 in the second round. Levy and Smith were joined by Taneesh Kaur Sra and Lettajoe Gallup (So., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS), each with an 88. Kaur Sra tied for 11th place at 170 and Gallup was 16th at 178.

The Bearcats will compete at the Whitworth Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1 in Spokane, Wash. The first day of the tournament will start at 11:30 a.m. (PDT) at Spokane Country Club.
