Weinhold is Tied for 5th and Bearcats are 2nd after First Day of Spring Thaw

BEND, ORE. -- Willamette University held second place in the team standings as the first round of the Willamette Spring Thaw in women's golf ended on Saturday, April 12 at Broken Top Golf Club. George Fox University was in first place with a score of 303. Willamette owned second place at 331, while Lewis & Clark College was third at 333.

Linfield College was in fourth place at 360. Pacific University was fifth at 379.

Madison Perry of George Fox topped the leaderboard with an even-par 72. She held a three-shot lead over a trio of golfers tied for second. Arielle Valdez and Claire Burke, both from Lewis & Clark, as well as Sydney Maluenda from GFU, each shot a 75.

Mckenzie Weinhold (Jr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno) of Willamette was tied with Loreece Magsanide of George Fox for fifth place at 75. Kirbi Havemann of GFU and Whitney Jammerman, also from GFU, were tied for seventh at 79. LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) of WU and Sophia Vigil from L&C each carded an 80 to tie for ninth.

Weinhold and Gallup led the way for Willamette. Also contributing for the Bearcats were Taneesh Sra (So., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS), who shot an 82, and Elise Levy (So., Reno, NV/Bishop Manogue HS), who finished the round with a 92.

The Willamette Spring Thaw will conclude with the second round on Sunday, April 13. A shotgun start will get underway at 10 a.m. (PDT).
