Sra Moves Into a Tie for Fourth Place at NWC Spring Classic

Bearcats Finish Sixth in Team Standings

TACOMA, Wash. -- Willamette University golfer Taneesh Sra (Jr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) tied for fourth place at the 2015 Northwest Conference Spring Classic with a 36-hole score of 150, after shooting a 75 in the final round on Sunday, April 12 at Lake Spanaway Golf Course. Sra advanced into the tie after beginning the round tied for eighth place.

Sra carded an 80 in the first round on Saturday. She was tied with Nicole Lomax from Whitworth University, who also opened the tournament with an 80. Lomax also moved into a tie for fourth place in the second round, as she matched Sra with a 75.

Phoebe Nguyen from Whitman College won the individual championship with a 36-hole score of even-par 144 (73-71). She claimed the title by nine strokes.

Chelsea Bayley of Whitworth and Syndey Maluenda of George Fox University tied for second place. Bayley carded 79-74--153 and Maluenda shot 78-75--153. Trailing Sra and Lomax by one stroke was Claire Burke from Lewis & Clark Collegein sixth place at 156 (82-74). Kelly Sweeney took seventh place for Whitman at 158.

Whitman and Whitworth tied for first place in the team standings at 629, as the Missionaries shot 323-306 and the Pirates registered 322-307. George Fox led after the first day with a score of 317, but fell to third place at 631 after shooting 314 in the second round.

Lewis & Clark was fourth at 650 (327-323), with Pacific Lutheran University in fifth at 662 (330-332) and Willamette in sixth with a score of 724 (367-357). Linfield College placed seventh at 730 (370-360), while University of Puget Sound was eighth at 788 (402-386), and Pacific University was ninth at 797 (410-387).

Sra was joined by three other Bearcats competing at the NWC Fall Classic. LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) tied for 22nd place with a score of 167 (86-81). Maddi Barnett (Fr., Boise, Idaho/Timberline HS) shot 178 with an 89 in each round, while Holly Steele (Fr., Stayton, OR/Stayton HS) shot 224 (112-112).

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 at the Willamette Spring Thaw. Willamette will host the tournament at Broke Top Club in Bend, Oregon.
