Sra Ties for Ninth Place at Pacific Lutheran Invitational

SPANAWAY, Wash. -- Willamette University women's golfer Taneesh Sra (Jr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) shot a 79 in the second round to finish tied for ninth place with a 36-hole score of 162 as the PLU Invitational concluded at Lake Spanaway Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Phoebe Nguyen from Whitman College won medalist honors with a score of 153 (78-75). Alyssa Maine, also from Whitman, and Mady Rhodenbaugh from Lewis & Clark College tied for second place at 154. Maine shot 73-81, while Rhodenbaught carded 76-78. Maine's 73 on Saturday was the low round of the tournament.

Whitworth University golfers Chelsea Bayley and Katie Ochoa tied for fourth place, each with an overall score of 155. Bayley recorded rounds of 77 and 78. Ochoa shot a 79 in the first round and a 76 in the second round.

Sra was one of three athletes competing for the Bearcats. Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) took 20th out of the 47 golfers entered in the event with a score of 172 (83-89). Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS) shot 216 (105-111).

Whitman won the team championship by two strokes with a score of 636. The Missionaries shot 318 each day, but trailed Lewis & Clark by one stroke after the first round. Whitworth, which held third after the first day at 321, led the field with a score of 317 in the second round to finish second overall at 638. L&C, which opened with a score of 317, carded a team score of 326 in the second round and took third at 643.

Host Pacific Lutheran University placed fourth at 670 (331-339), while Linfield College was fifth at 703 (361-342) and Pacific University was sixth at 776 (385-391). University of Puget Sound took seventh at 785 (399-386). Willamette did not field a complete team and did not have a team score.

The Bearcats will be in action again next weekend when they will compete at the Pacific Fall Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore. Pacific University will be hosting the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20.
