Sra Ties for 24th Place at Culturame Classic

ALOHA, Ore. -- Willamette University women's golfer Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) tied for 24th place as the Culturame Classic concluded with 18 holes on Sunday, Oct. 3, at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was hosted by George Fox University.

Sra carded an 84 in each round to finish at 168. She tied for 24th with Sarah Kotel of George Fox, who shot 82-86, and with Sofia Vigil from Lewis & Clark College who shot 87-81.

The Bruins of George Fox won the team title by 10 strokes with an overall score of 623 (311-312). University of Redlands (Calif.) finished second at 633 (315-318), while Whitman College took third place at 636 (322-314).

Lewis & Clark was fourth at 653 (337-316), Concordia University (Ore.) placed fifth at 668 (338-330) and Whitworth University was sixth at 672 (338-334). Linfield College placed seventh at 715 (362-353) and University of California, Santa Cruz was eighth at 720 (358-362). Willamette did not enter a complete team.

Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman, who shot a 71 on the par-73 course on Saturday, added a 1-over 74 on Sunday to claim medalist honors by five strokes at 145. Amberlynn Dorsey of Redlands was second at 150 on the strength of back-to-back 75s.

Two golfers -- Syndey Maluenda of GFU and Caroline Ordian of Redlands -- tied for third place at 151. Maluenda carded 74-77, while Ordian shot 73-78. Kristin Elich and Madison Perry, both from George Fox, tied for fifth place at 154. Elich produced two rounds of 77. Perry shot 78-76.\

Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS) of Willamette shot 220 for the tournament after lowing her score by six strokes in the second round, as she carded 113-107. Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) did not compete for the Bearcats due to injury.

Willamette will compete at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Saturday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11 at The Meadows Course in Sunriver, Oregon.
