McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's golf team completed just nine of 18 holes on Saturday, Feb. 27, as darkness shortened the first round of the Willamette Cup at Michelbook Country Club. Thirteen of the 28 golfers entered in the tournament finished only nine holes on Saturday.

Action in the tournament has been reduced to 27 holes, and the first round will not be completed. The second round is set for Chehalem Glenn Golf Course in Newberg, Oregon, on Sunday, Feb. 28. Linfield College and George Fox University are co-hosting the meet.

Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) of Willamette shot a 42 over the front nine. Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) carded a score of 44 for the Bearcats. Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS) shot 55 for Willamette.

Janelle Decker from George Fox recorded a score of 39 for the low front-nine score of the day. She was followed by Mady Rhodenbaugh of Lewis & Clark College, who shot a 41. Sra and Maggie Carey from L&C were tied for third place at 42 for the first nine holes. Barnett was tied for fifth with Tori Eighten of L&C, Sarah Kotel of GFU and Sofia Vigil from L&C, all at 44.

The weather was dry on Saturday, but the course was very soft from rain on Friday. The ball frequently stopped on contact.
