Sra Shoots 77, Move into Tie for 6th Place in Final Standings at UPS Invitational

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Willamette University golfer Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) tied for sixth place in the final standings with a 36-hole score of 158, as the UPS Invitational concluded on Sunday, March 6 at Gold Mountain Golf Club. Sra, who began the day tied for 10th after shooting an 81 in the first round, improved by four strokes to a 77 on Sunday.

The tournament was hosted by University of Puget Sound. The women's competition was held on the Cascade Course.

Jeankie-Jhen Aczon of Pacific Lutheran University and Shiyang Fan from Whitman College tied for medalist honors at 151. Aczon shot 74 in the first round and 77 in the second round. Fan carded a 75 over the 18 holes on Saturday and shot a 76 during Sunday's round.

Phoebe Nguyen from Whitman was third at 152 (74-78), while Mady Rhodenbaugh of Lewis & Clark College placed fourth at 153 (76-77). Michal Schuster of Whitworth University finished fifth at 156 (76-80).

Sra gained four strokes during the second round on Halle Peterson from Puget Sound to force a tie for sixth at 158. Peterson shot a 77 in the first round and recorded an 81 over the final 18 holes.

Katie Ochoa of Whitworth and Sofia Vigil of Leiws & Clark tied for eighth at 159. Both golfers registered scores of 84 and 75. Madison LaVergne from PLU and Lou Points of Whitman shared 10th place at 160. LaVergne shot 79-81, while Points carded 78-82.

Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of Willamette improved by one stroke in the second round to place 17th out of 42 golfers. She shot an 86 in the first round and an 85 on Sunday. Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS) of WU shot 222 overall after cutting 20 strokes in the second round (121-101).

Whitman won the team title with a score of 625 (308-317). Lewis & Clark was second at 640 (324-316) and Pacific Lutheran was third at 647 (319-328).

Whitworth owned fourth place at 655 (332-323), Linfield College was fifth at 717 (361-346) and Olympic College (Wash.) was sixth at 738 (372-366). Pacific University finished seventh with a score of 741 (369-372) and Puget Sound was eighth at 777 (384-393). Willamette did not field a full team.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, March 22 and Wednesday, March 23 at the Wellesley College Spring Break Invitational in ChampionsGate, Florida. Wellesley College (Mass.) is hosting the tournament at the ChampionsGate Country Club.
