Sra Ties for 10th Place at NWC Spring Classic

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Willamette University's Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) finished tied for 10th place in the Northwest Conference Spring Classic, held at Wine Valley Golf Club, with a 36-hole score of 159 (77-82) on Sunday, April 10th.

Phoebe Nguyen from Whitman College won medalist honors with a score of 146 (74-72). George Fox's Sydney Maluenda tied for second along with two other players from Whitman, Alyssa Maine and Shiyang Fan. All three golfers finished just one stroke behind Nguyen with two-round scores of 147. Maluenda shot a 72-75, Maine carded a 77-70, and Fan shot a 76 on Saturday before finishing up with a 71 on Sunday.

George Fox golfers Melissa Nugent and Hailey Ostrom tied for fifth place, each with an overall score of 154. Nugent recorded rounds of 78 and 76. Ostrom shot a 76 in the first round and a 78 in the second round.

Sra was one of three athletes competing for the Bearcats. Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) tied for 18th out of the 42 athletes entered in the event with a score of 164 (83-81).Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS) shot 215 (108-107).

Whitman won the team championship by thirteen strokes with a score of 597. The Missionaries shot 303 on Saturday and a 294 on Sunday to solidify their victory after leading George Fox by just one stroke after the first round. The Bruins shot a 304 on Saturday and a 306 on Sunday to finish with with a 610 on their score card and in second place. L&C took third place as they finished the weekend with a 638 after carding a 317 on Saturday and a 325 on Sunday.

Whitworth placed fourth at 644 (319-325), while Pacific Lutheran was fifth at 674 (333-341) and Linfield College was sixth at 722 (366-356). Pacific University took seventh at 733 (368-365). University of Puget Sound finished in 8th place at 868 (434-434). Willamette did not field a complete team and did not have a team score.

The Bearcats will be in action again next weekend when they will compete in the Willamette Spring Thaw hosted by Willamette and held at the Lost Tracks Golf Club in Bend, Oregon. It is a two day tournament running April 16th and 17th.
