Barnett Places 10th at Willamette Spring Thaw; Sra Shoots 79 in Second Round

BEND, Ore. -- Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) from Willamette University took 10th place at the Willamette Spring Thaw, as the 36-hole tournament concluded Sunday, April 17 with the second round of play at the Lost Tracks Golf Club. Barnett shot 163 with a 79 in the first round and an 84 in the second round.

Mady Rhodenbaugh of Lewis & Clark College claimed the individual tournament title with a score of 149. She carded a 76 on Saturday, and then registered the low round of the tournament with a 73 on Sunday.

Rhodenbaugh led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Pioneers. Annie McCutchan placed second at 151 (75-76) and Jane Almeida took third place on strength of a great second round to finish at 155 (81-74). Michal Schuster from Whitworth placed fourth at 158 (77-81).

Two golfers -- Chelsea Bayley of Whitworth and Claire Burke from L&C -- tied for fifth place at 159. Bayley carded 84-75 and Burke shot 76-83.

A trio of Pacific Lutheran University athletes tied for seventh place, all at 162. Jeankie-Jhen Aczon shot 83-79, while Anela Barber registered 80-82 and Desirae Haselwood shot 85-77.

Barnett followed one stroke back in 10th. Also competing for the Bearcats were Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) and Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS). Sra, who shot 88 in the first round, improved by nine strokes on Sunday with a 79 to tie for 13th place at 167. Walters shot 233 (118-115).

Lewis & Clark won the women's team title. The Pioneers earned a score of 614 (308-306) for a 32-stroke margin of victory. Pacific Lutheran was second at 646 (324-322) and Whitworth placed third at 653 (335-318). Linfield College took fourth place at 731 (368-363), while Pacific University finished fifth at 736 (377-359). Willamette did not field a complete team.

The Bearcats will compete at the NWC Tournament on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. The 36-hole event is set for Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver, Oregon.
