Towner and Barnett Compete at First Day of Oregon Tech Invitational

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Willamette University women's golfers Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) and Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) competed in the first day of the Oregon Tech Invitational on Monday, Sept. 12 at the Running Y Ranch. The women's tournament featured the first round on Monday and will conclude with the second round on Tuesday (Sept. 13).

Towner was 15th of of 33 athletes at the end of the first day. She shot an 88 and was just two strokes out of a tie for 12th. Barnett carded a 90 and was tied with Jennifer Wilson from College of Idaho for 17th place.

The leaderboard included three golfers tied for first place. Kyle Collom, Heidi Froelich and Stephanie Koza, all from Oregon Institute of Technology, each shot 76 to share a two-stroke lead. Janelle Ferlan of Oregon Tech was fourth at 78, and Holly Froelich of Oregon Tech was fifth at 79.

In the team standings, Oregon Tech held first place with an 18-hole score of 306. College of Idaho was second at 343, with Simpson University (Calif.) in third place at 359. Sierra Nevada College (Nev.) was fourth at 432 and Walla Walla University (Wash.) was fifth at 484. Willamette did not field a compete team.
