Towner and Barnett Complete Final 18 Holes at NWC Fall Classic

CRESWELL, Ore. -- Willamette University golfers Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) and Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) played the final 18 holes of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in women's golf on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Emerald Ridge Golf Club and Resort.

Towner finished the two-day tournament with a score of 181 after shooting 85 in the first round and 96 in the second round. Barnett, who carded a 95 in the first round and shot a 90 in the second round, earned an overall score of 185.

George Fox University claimed the team title at 605. The Bruins shot 312 on Saturday and shot a tournament-low 293 on Sunday. Whitman Colege took second place at 623 (311-312), while Lewis & Clark College was third at 631 (325-306).

Pacific Lutheran University followed in fourth place at 692 (352-340). Whitworth University was fifth at 694 (351-343), Pacific University placed sixth at 721 (364-357), Linfield College took seventh at 752 (380-372), and University of Puget Sound was eighth at 803 (405-398). Willamette did not field a complete team.

Sydney Maluenda from George Fox earned medalist honors with a 36-hole score of even-par 144. She shot a 75 in the first round, before recording the low round of the tournament with a 3-under-par 69 in the second round. Shiyang Fan of Whitman finished second at 148 (75-73). Mady Rhodenbaugh of Lewis & Clark took third at 151 (80-71).

Fourth place went to Kristin Elich from George Fox with a score of 152 (80-72). Rachel Drgastin, also from GFU, carded a 155 (79-76) for fifth place, while Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman placed sixth at 157 (79-78). Madison Perry from GFU was seventh at 158 (82-76).

A group of four golfers tied for eighth place at 159. They were Irsi Kawada of George Fox (78-81), Annie McCutchan of L&C (78-81), Lou Points from Whitman (77-82) and Hannah Roh from Whitman (80-79).

The NWC Fall Classic is one of three tournaments used to determine the overall NWC champion. The Fall Classic is worth one-fourth of the overall title, with the NWC Spring Classic also counting for one-fourth. The NWC Tournament counts for one-half of the title.

Willamette has completed its fall season. The Bearcats will be back in action during the spring semester.
