Second Round of Willamette Cup in Women's Golf is Canceled

OREGON CITY, Ore. -- The second round of the Willamette Cup in women's golf was canceled on Sunday, Feb. 26 due to wet grounds and the chance for additional rain at Stone Creek Golf Club. Results from Saturday's first rond are now the final results for the tournament.

Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) of Willamette University shot an 88 in the first round to take 15th place. Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) shot a 92 for the Bearcats and tied for 18th place with three other golfers. A total of 32 athletes competed in the event.

George Fox University won the team title with a score of at 309. Lewis & Clark College was second, seven strokes behind the Bruins at 316. Corban University placed third at 340, Pacific University took fourth place at 371 and Linfield College finished fifth at 388. Willamette did not field a complete team.

Syndey Maluenda from George Fox won the individual championship led at 1-over-par 73. She won the title by three strokes. Arielle Valdez from Lewis & Clark and Carrie Wallace from Corban tied for second place at 76. Iris Kawada of George Fox earned fourth place at 78.

Five golfers tied for fifth place with scores of 79. Gaining part of the fifth-place tie were Janelle Decker, Kristin Elich and Madison Perry from George Fox, as well as Tori Eichten and Annie McCutchan from L&C.

Willamette will be back in action on on March 4-5 at the University of Puget Sound Invitational. The tournament is scheduled to be held at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington.
