BREMERTON, Wash. -- Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) earned 19th place and Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) took 20th place, as the University of Puget Sound Invitational in women's golf concluded on Sunday, March 5k at Gold Mountain Golf Club. Shiyang Fan from Whitman College finished in first place with a 36-hole score of 148 on back-to-back rounds of 74.

Fan was followed on the leadereboard by Michal Schuster of Whitworth University, who claimed second place at 157 (77-80). Hannah Roh of Whitman was third at 161 (80-81), while Nguyen Phoebe, also from Whitman, placed fourth at 162 (84-78). Fifth place went to Desirae Haselwood of Pacific Lutheran who carded 164 (82-82).

There were no ties in the top 10. Completing the list were Jeankie Aczon of PLU in sixth at 79-87--166, Lou Points from Whitman in seventh at 89-78--167, Maggie Peters from Whitworth in eighth at 87-81--168, Briana Finau of Pacific University in ninth at 87-82--169, and Kacey Godwin from Whitman in 10th at 84-86--170. A total of 41 golfers competed in the tournament.

For Willamette, Barnett shot a 36-hole total of 177. She recorded an 88 in the first round and an 89 i the second round. Towner finished at 183 with an 87 on Saturday and a 96 on Sunday.

Whitman won the team championship with a score of 637 (326-311). The Blues took the title by 33 strokes. Whitworth placed second at 670 (332-338) and Pacific Lutheran was third at 676 (332-344). Linfield College finished in fourth place at 747 (382-365), with Pacific in fifth at 787 (393-394). Puget Sound was sixth at 793 (405-388) and Olympic College placed seventh at 817 (411-406). Willamette did not field a complete team.

The Bearcats are scheduled to compete again on April 1 and April 2 at the University of California-Santa Cruz Invitational. The meet will be held at the Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove, Calif.
