Barnett Ties for 5th Place in Final Standings at UCSC Spring Invitational

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. -- Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) from Willamette University shot an 81 on the second day of the UCSC Spring Invitational for a 36-hole score of 166 to tie for fourth place in the final standings, as the UCSC Spring Invitational concluded at the Pacific Grove Golf Links on Sunday, April 2. Barnett improved by four strokes over her first round score of 85.

Jenna Jensen of Corban University won the individual title with a score of 160. Jensen shot a 79 in the first round to lead all golfers, then carded an 81 in the second round. She won by two strokes over Annie McCutchan from Lewis & Clark College, who took second place at 162 by shooting 87-75. McCutchan's 3-over-par 75 in the second round was the low round of the weekend.

Olivia Bean from host University of California, Santa Cruz, placed third at 163 (85-78). Jane Almeida of Lewis & Clark was fourth at 164 (83-81). Barnett and Arielle Valdez from L&C tied for fourth place at 166. Barnett carded 85-81 and Valdez shot 86-80.

Two golfers, Claire Burke and Tori Eichten, both from Lewis & Clark, tied for seventh place. Each shot 88-79 for total scores of 167. Faith Udy from Corban was ninth at 172 (87-85). Taylor Preston of Corban was 10th with a score of 174 (89-85).

Barnett was one of two Bearcats who competed in the tournament. Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) shot 188 (92-90) over 36 holes for Willamette.

The team standings were led by Lewis & Clark at 657 (344-313). Corban placed second at 682 (349-333), while UC Santa Cruz took third place at 723 (367-356). The Bearcats did not field a complete team.

Willamette will be back in action on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 at the NWC Spring Classic in Bremerton, Washington. University of Puget Sound will host the tournament at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
