Willamette's Barnett is Tied for 10th after First Round of Willamette Spring Thaw

WOODBURN, Ore. -- Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of Willamette University was tied for 10th place when the first round of the Willamette Spring Thaw ended on Friday, April 14 at the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) Golf Course. Barnett shot a 90, which matched the scores of Tianna Brown from George Fox University and Cheyenne Marchand from Whitworth University.

Janelle Decker of George Fox led the standing on the first day with a score of 6-over-par 78. Maggie Peters from Whitworth was in second place, just one stroke off the pace at 79. Michal Schuster, also from Whitworth, held third place with an 84.

Briana Finau of Pacific University and Sofia Vigil of Lewis & Clark College were tied for fourth place at 97. Three golfers were tied for sixth. They were Annika Clunk from L&C, Emmi Modahl from University of Puget Sound, and Madison Pillo of Whitworth -- each with an 88. Katie Ochoa from Whitworth was ninth at 89.

Willamette's Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) carded a 95 and was in 15th place.

In the team standings, Whitworth owned first place at 342. The Pirates held a 25-point lead over Lewis & Clark, which owned second place with a score of 367. Pacific was third at 379 and Puget Sound was fourth at 387. Willamette and George Fox did not field complete teams.

The Willamette Spring Thaw will conclude with the second round at the OGA Golf Course on Saturday, April 15. Action in the women's tournament will begin at 10 a.m. (PDT).
