Barnett Finishes in 11th Place at Willamette Spring Thaw

WOODBURN, Ore. -- Maddi Barnett (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of Willamette University shot her second consecutive round of 90 to finish in 11th place with an overall score of 180, as the competition concluded at the Willamette Spring Thaw on Saturday, April 15 at the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) Golf Course.

Whitworth University won the team title at 669. The Pirates scored 342 during the first round on Saturday, and recorded the tournament's lowest round on Sunday at 327. Lewis & Clark College was second at 717 (367-350). Pacific University took third place at 758 (379-379) and University of Puget Sound was fourth at 763 (387-376). Willamette and George Fox University did not field complete teams.

Janelle Decker from George Fox won medalist honors with a score of 159. She carded a 78 in the first round for the low score of the weekend. She tacked on an 81 on Sunday to win by one stroke. Maggie Peters of Whitworth, who trailed Decker by one stroke on Saturday, matched Decker on Sunday to take second place at 160 (79-81).

Michal Schuster from Whitworth was third at 166 (84-82) and Briana Finau of Pacific placed fourth with a score of 169 (87-82). Tianna Brown of GFU, who was tied with Barnett for 10th place at 90 after one round, improved to an 80 in the second round and finished fifth at 170.

A two-way tie for sixth place included Annika Clun from Leiws & Clark and Katie Ochoa from Whitworth. Each completed the 36 holes at 171, with Clunk shooting 88-83 and Ochoa shooting 89-82.

Sofia Vigil of L&C took eighth place at 173 (87-86). Jaymie Pentony of Whitworth was ninth at 176 (94-82). Madison Pillo from Whitworth claimed ninth place at 177 (88-89).

Joining Barnett at the tournament for the Bearcats was Lexi Towner (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS). Towner shot 193 (95-98).

Willamette's golfers will compete at the Northwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Tacoma, Washington.
