Willamette Valley Cup Ends with Barnett in 5th Place and Towner Tied for 6th

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Maddi Barnett (Sr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) finished in fifth place and Lexi Towner (So., Chico, CA/Chico HS) tied for sixth, as the Willamette Valley Cup concluded with 18 holes on Sunday, March 18 at Trysting Tree Golf Club. Annika Clunk and Mady Rhodenbaugh, foth from Lewis & Clark College, tied for the individual championship with scores of 160. L&C won the team title.

Clunk shot an 81 in the first round and carded a 70 in the second round. Rhodenbaugh ended the first round at 82, before earning the tournament's low round with a 78 on Sunday. Briana Finau of Pacific University was third at 169 (81-88). Finau was tied with Clunk for first place at the start of the second round.

Madeline Rice from Linfield grabbed fourth place at 171 (87-84). Barnett followed in fifth place at 173 (84-89). Towner and Jane Almeida of L&C began the day tied for seventh after each shot 91 in the first round. The matched each other with 88s in the second round to tie for sixth overall at 179. Tiana Yamaoka of Linfield was eight at 180 (89-91) and Janie Kiyokawa of Pacific placed ninth at 183 (93-90).

In addition to Barnett and Towner, golfers competing for Willamette were Kristen Barclay (So./Fr., Kenmore, WA/Cedar Park Christian School) and Katerin Vasquez (Fr., Indio, CA/Coachella Valley HS). Barclay shot a 97 in both rounds for a 36-hole total of 194. Vasquez improved by 12 strokes in the second round with a 111 and concluded the tournament at 234.

Lewis & Clark's winning team total was 683 (352-331). The Pioneers shot a tournament-low 331 on Sunday. Pacific took second place at 730 (360-370) and Linfield was third at 763 (384-379). Willamette placed fourth at 780 with a score of 395 in the first round and a 10-stroke improvement to 385 in the second round.

Willamette will participate in the Bulldog Classic at Indian Springs Golf Club in Indio, California, on March 26-27. University of Redlands will be hosting the tournament.
