SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University women's golfer Maddi Barnett ('18), who recently graduated with a bachelor's degree and a major in Economics, has repeated as an All-American Scholar as selected by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). Barnett was one of just six golfers in the Northwest Conference to receive the academic honor for 2017-18. Barnett also earned All-American Scholar honors in 2016-17.

Athletes qualified for All-American Scholar recognition by earning at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) through the end of the 2017-18 academic year. A total of 1,011 golfers received the award from throughout all three NCAA Divisions. In the NWC, the six honorees were Barnett, Rachel Drgastin from Lewis & Clark College, and Allison Collier, Shiyang Fan, Pheobe Nguyen and Jhunam Sidhu from Whitman College.

WGCA All-American Scholar

Maddi Barnett ('18) placed 15th at the 2018 NWC Tournament with a 36-hole score of 167 (84-83) on April 21-22, 2018 at Oakbrook Golf Course in Lakewood, Washington. She was fifth at the Willamette Valley Cup, and took sixth at the Willamette Spring Thaw. She placed ninth at the Sunshine Invitational, and tied for 12th at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational. She tied for 16th at the NWC Fall Classic.

Barnett tied for 11th at the 2017 NWC Tournament with a score of 159 (81-78). Also in 2016-17, she tied for fifth place at the UCSC Spring Invitational, hosted by the University of California, Santa Cruz, and was 11th at the Willamette Spring Thaw.
