THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Willamette University golfer Lexi Towner (Jr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) shot an 84 in the first round of the CLU Regals Invitational on Monday, March 11 at Sunset Hills Country Club. The meet is hosted by California Lutheran University.

In addition to Towner, other Bearcats competing in the tournament are Kristen Barclay (Jr./So., Kenmore, WA/Cedar Park Christian School) and Katerin Vasquez (So., Indio, CA/Coachella Valley HS). Barclay carded a 93 in the first round. Vasquez shot a 119.

Overall results from the first round were not immediately available.

"Lexi continued to hit her drive really well, which helped her shoot another impressive round," Willamette Assistant Coach Ryan Melnychuk said. "Kristen shot a back nine of 44. It took her a little while to find her swing, but I thought she settled into the round really well. Katerin hit a ton of fairways, but lost a few shots on the approaches. A few more greens in regulation tomorrow and that score drops a lot."

The CLU Regals Invitational will conclude with the second round on Tuesday, March 12.
