Towner Finishes in 5th Place at Willamette Valley Cup

SALEM, Ore. -- Lexi Towner (Jr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) from Willamette University earned fifth place in the final standings at the Willamette Valley Cup as the tournament concluded on Sunday, March 17 at Creekside Golf Club. Casey Jansen of Corban University won the individual title, while Corban claimed the team championship.

Towner shot an 87 in the first round on Saturday, and then carded an 88 in the second round on Sunday. She finished at 175.

Jansen topped the leaders with a score of 148. She finished the first round with a score of 75 and shot a 73 in the second round. Annie McCutchan of Lewis & Clark College and Delainey Patterson from Corban tied for second place at 161. McCutchan shot 81-80, while Patterson registered 75-86. Delainey began the day tied with Jansen for first place.

Kamrin Ford of Lewis & Clark took fourth place at 167. She carded an 82 in the first round and an 85 in the second round.

Towner's fifth place finish put her two stroke in front of Tori Eichten from L&C, who was sixth at 177 (91-86). Jane Almeida, also with the Pioneers, was seventh with a score of 178 (88-90).

Also competing for Willamette were Kristen Barclay (Jr./So., Kenmore, WA/Cedar Park Christian School) and Katerin Vasquez (So., Indio, CA/Coachella Valley HS). Barclay shot 199, with a 95 in the first round and a 104 in the second round. Vasquez shot 225 (115-110).

Corban's winning team score was 664, as the Warriors shot 325 on Saturday and 339 on Sunday. Lewis & Clark placed second at 683 (342-341) and Pacific University was third at 795 (382-413). Johnson & Wales University (Colo.) was fourth at 1,312 (696-616). Linfield College and Willamette did not enter complete teams.

The Bearcats will compete at the Bulldog Classic, hosted by University of Redlands (Calif.) on Monday, May 25 and Tuesday, May 26. The tournament will be hled at The S Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

Big Moment of the Day for Willamette

Lexi Towner recorded two birdies in the second round, as
she earned a two on the par-3 second hole and registered
a three on the par-4 ninth. She finished fifth overall during
the tournament with an 87 in the first round and an 88 in
the second round.
