Three Bearcats Open Competition at Northwest Conference Tournament

SALEM, Ore. – The Willamette University women's golf team has three players competing as individuals at the 2022 Northwest Conference Tournament. The Bearcats are the hosts of the two-day event being played at the Creekside Golf Club.

Senior Meghan Hook (Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead HS) led the Bearcats in the opening round on Saturday, April 23, carding a 106. Alexis Schwartz (Gr., Ontario, OR/Ontario HS) came in with a 111 while Kiki Fierstos (Sr., Redmond, OR/Redmond HS) shot a 125 on the day.

George Fox University is one round away from capturing the team championship, taking a big lead on opening day. The Bruins combined to finish 10 over par on Saturday. George Fox, who also claimed the top spot in the NWC Fall and Spring Classic events, which each count toward the overall championship, turned in a round of 298 to move one step closer to the title.

Whitworth University is currently second with 335, followed by Pacific Lutheran at 375 and Linfield in fourth with 381. Pacific University holds a one stroke lead over Puget Sound in fifth and sixth, respectively, with scores of 396 and 397. Lewis and Clark is seventh with 404.

George Fox holds the top five spots in the individual standings, all separated by just five strokes. Alison Takamiya carded the low round of the day with a one-over par 73. Liana Brown and Makensie Toole are right there with scores of 74 and 75, respectively.

Play continues tomorrow with the final round as George Fox looks for a ninth straight title and the 11th in program history. Tee times will be determined by Saturday's finish.
