Three Willamette Women's Golfers Compete in First Round of Culturame Classic

CANBY, Ore. -- Three members of the Willamette University women's golf team participated in the first round of the Culturame Classic on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Willamette Valley Country Club. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by George Fox University, will conclude with the second round, set for Monday, Oct. 3.

Golfing for the Bearcats were Saida Seelig (Fy., Portland, OR/Wilson HS), Mallory Tolliver (Fy., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS), and Kennedy Raphelt (Jr.). Seelig carded a score of 100 in the first round, while Tolliver shot 101, and Raphelt shot 114.

The individual leaderboard was topped by Alison Takamiya of George Fox University with an even-par 72. Jett Legacion from California Lutheran University and Avery Kageyama of GFU were tied for second place at 73. Makensie Toole from GFU was fourth at 74 and teammate Liana Brown was fifth with a 75. Three golfers -- Ashley Zook from California Lutheran and Whitworth University student-athletes Maddie Hahn and Stacia Sarty -- were tied for sixth place with matching scores of 77.

George Fox led the team standings with an 18-hole score of 6-over par 294. The Bruins held first place by 16 strokes. California Lutheran was second at 310, while Whitworth was third at 319, and Whitman was fourth at 342. Linfield University followed in fifth place at 373 and Lewis & Clark College was sixth at 463. Willamette did not enter a full team.
