At Willamette Valley Cup, Moore Shoots an 83 and Srivastav Cards an 88

SALEM, Ore. -- During the second round of the Willamette Valley Cup at Creekside Golf Club on Sunday, March 17, Roberta Moore (So., Lakewood, WA/Lakes HS/Lewis & Clark College) from the Willamette University women's golf team shot an 83. She improved by 11 strokes from a 94 in the first round, as she completed the tournament with a 36-hole score of 177. Anushka Srivastav (Sr., Pune, India/Mahindra International School) of Willamette carded an 88 on Sunday, while lowering her score by 12 strokes from the first round to finish at 188 overall.

The Bearcats concluded the tournament in eighth place in the team standings. Willamette registered a score of 388 in the first round and improved by 22 strokes in the second round to 366.

George Fox University won the team championship after earning back-to-back rounds of 296 for a final score of 592. The Bruins won by 51 strokes, with Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) placing second at 643 (322-321). Whitman College was third at 663 (336-327), while North Idaho College placed fourth at 666 (343-323). Pacific University held fifth place with a score of 680 (348-332), Southern Oregon University placed sixth at 683 (346-337), Pacific Lutheran University followed in seventh at 693 (344-349), Willamette was eighth at 754, and Linfield University placed ninth at 789 (401-388). Bushnell University did not enter a full team.

In addition to Moore and Srivastav, Willamette's team included Saida Seelig (So., Portland, OR/Wilson HS) and Mallory Tolliver (So., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS). Seelig achieved a 36-hole score of 193 (97-96), while Tolliver carded a score of 196 (97-99).

The Bruins of GFU grabbed the top three places in the final individual standings. Alisoin Takamiya claimed medalist honors in first place at 1-under par 143. Takamiya shot an even-par 72 in the first round and added a 1-under par 71 in the second round. Makensie Toole earned second place at 144, after shooting a 73 in the first round and matching Takamiya with a 71 in the second round. Liana Brown, who sat atop the women's leaderboard at the end of the first round with a 70, carded a 79 in the second round and moved into third place at 149.

Laila Jalil of North Idaho took fourth place at 155 with rounds of 78 and 77. Keira Cheng from Southern Oregon and Katya Kurkoski from Whitman, tied for fifth place at 157, as both golfers shot 79-78. Another two-way tie occurred at seventh place, where Carter Ainsley of George Fox and Kyla Currie from Lewis-Clark State shot 158. Ainslee's rounds were 81 and 77, while Currie shot 82 and 76.

Ninth place was shared by three George Fox golfers at 160. Giselle Flint shot 81-79, while Reyna Naranjo and Leanne Telle each carded 83-77.

Willamette's next competition is set for Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31 at the UCSC Spring Invitational, hosted by the University of California, Santa Cruz. The tournament will be held at the Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove, California.
