Sawyer is Chosen NWC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University goalkeeper Shelby Sawyer (Fy., Marysville, WA/Bio Med Academy) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the Bearcats' first three games of the season. She played a total of 99:06 during the three games, helping Willamette earn a 2-1 record, including 2-0 in the NWC.

Sawyer registered a 7.87 goals against average and provided the Bearcats with 17 saves. She recorded her first collegiate win by playing the final 57:33 against Pacific University on March 8. She achieved seven saves and allowed just three goals by the Boxers, as the Bearcats rallied from a 3-0 deficit when she entered the game to claim a 15-6 victory.

The Bearcats will host George Fox University in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, March 14. Game time at Sparks Field is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
