Gottschalk, Jennings, Kampen on Academic All-District Women's All-Large Team

SALEM, Ore. -- Three Willamette University women's lacrosse players have been selected for the 2022-23 NCAA Division III Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA). Willamette's Academic All-District choices were Kiana Gottschalk (Sr., DEF, Bend, OR/Bend HS), Kendyl Jennings (Jr., MID, Keizer, OR/McNary HS), and Jade Kampen (Sr., DEF, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS). Players nominated for the CSC All-District Women's At-Large Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Each student-athlete was at their current college or university for at least one academic year.

All of the nominees participated in an NCAA sport without its own CSC Academic All-District Team. Each player named Academic All-District is eligible for the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team, which will be announced on June 22.

Willamette earned a 13-5 overall record in 2023, including 9-3 in the Northwest Conference to tie for second place in the regular season. The Bearcats qualified for the first-ever NWC Tournament and defeated Whitman College in overtime in the semifinals before falling to George Fox in the NWC Championship game.

NCAA Division III Academic All-District

Headshot of Kiana Gottschalk Kiana Gottschalk (Sr., DEF) played in 15 games and made 14 starts this season. She excelled on defense with 17 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers, including five caused turnovers against Whitman on March 12. She also contributed one assist on the attack.

Gottschalk played in 40 games with 39 starts during her career over the past three seasons. She was a member of the team in 2020, but did not play during the COVID-shortened season. Her career statistics with the Bearcats include 67 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.

This spring, Gottschalk graduated from Willamette with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. She earned a 3.57 cumulative GPA through the 2022 fall semester.

Headshot of Kendyl Jennings Kendyl Jennings (Jr., MID) competed in 16 games this season with 16 starts for the Bearcats. She registered three goals and eight assists for 11 points on offense. She also provided WU with 20 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. She was named Second Team All-NWC in 2022 after scoring 11 goals and 14 assists.

At Willamette, Jennings has accumulated 18 goals and 12 assists during her career for 48 points. She has played in a total of 44 games, all starts. She has taken 39 shots with 30 shots on goal, and has supplied the Bearcats with 72 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers.

Jennings is majoring in Biology. She entered the spring semester with a 3.98 cumulative GPA.

Headshot of Jade Kampen Jade Kampen (Sr., DEF) was chosen First Team All-NWC this season after starting all 18 games and providing the Bearcats with 35 ground balls, 16 draw control, and 16 caused turnovers. As a key defensive player, she has helped Willamette achieve a combined record of 33-13 (.717) since the start of the 2021 season.

In her three years with the Bearcats, Kampen has played in 44 games with 35 starts. She has registered 72 ground balls, 24 draw controls, and 25 caused turnovers.

Kampen is majoring in Global Cultural Studies with minors in Public Health and Spanish. She held a 3.77 cumulative GPA at the end of the fall semester.
