Bearcats Earn 0-0 Tie at Whitworth in Two Overtimes

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Willamette University and Whitworth University combined for 30 shots in their Northwest Conference women's soccer game on Sunday, Oct. 25, but both defenses kept the shots from going into the nets, as the Bearcats and the Pirates played to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes.

The Bearcats took 17 shots, while Whitworth was credited with 13 shots. Willamette moved to 6-8-2 overall, 6-5-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Pirates ended the game at 6-8-3 on the season, 4-6-3 in the NWC.

For Willamette, goalkeeper Emily Sewall (Jr., GK, Petaluma, CA/Casa Grande HS) registered four saves during the 110-minute shutout. Sienna Tanner also played all 110 minutes in goal and made  nine saves for Whitworth.

Emmy Manset (So., F, Ventura, CA/Foothill Technology HS) of Willamette took six shots, including five shots on goal. Leah Corra of Whitworth earned four shots with two shots on goal.

Led by Manset, the Bearcats placed nine shots on goal. Whitworth finished with four shots on target.

Willamette forced Tanner to make four saves in the first half. Two were early in the game, on shots by Manset 39 seconds after the opening whistle and at 9:27. The other two saves were late in the half when Kinsey Keene (Jr., F, Eagle, ID/Eagle HS) shot at 40:30 and at 45:00 as time expired.

Each goalie recorded three saves in the second half. Sewall registered a key save at 88:04 on a header by Hannah Bokma of Whitworth following a corner kick.

The Bearcats outshot the Pirates 3-1 in the overtime periods. A shot by Jaclyn Parnell (Jr., D, West Richland, WA/Richland HS) was saved by Tanner at 97:00 in the first overtime, while a shot from Jill Phillips (Sr., D/GK, Fairbanks, AK/West Valley HS) went wide at 98:15. Tanner earned the game's final save at 109:41 -- with just 19 seconds left in the second overtime -- on a shot by Manset.

Willamette will play three of its final four games at home, starting with a match-up against George Fox University on Saturday, Oct. 31. Kickoff at Sparks Field is scheduled for 12 p.m. (PDT).
