SALEM, Ore. -- Fionn Fortune (Jr., MF, Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes/Hamilton Coll.) scored at 25:18 and Shanna Keil (Jr., F, Danville, CA/San Ramon Valley HS) added a goal at 70:11, as the Willamette University Bearcats shut out Warner Pacific University, 2-0, in a women's soccer game on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Sparks Field. Willamette outshot the Knights 24-4 overall, including a 15-1 margin in shots on goal. The Bearcats advanced their record to 3-0 on the season. The Knights slipped to 0-5.

Willamette controlled much of the action, especially in the first half. The Bearcats took 15 shots in the first 45 minutes, while holding the Knights without a shot, and forcing WPU goalkeeper Alyssa Guthrie to make eight saves.

On Willamette's 11th shot the Bearcats took advantage of their sizable edge in possession. The goal was scored by Fortune on a 2-yard tap-in near the left post after a cross from the right side by Gena Main (Jr., F, San Francisco, CA/Gateway HS/Bryn Mawr College). Lacey Jones (So., F, Portland, OR/David Douglas HS) began the scoring play with a through pass to Main.

Keil amost doubled Willamette's lead at 68:40, but her shot from a tight angle on the left side smacked into the outside of the left post. Keil succeeded in giving WU a 2-0 advantage just 1:31 later at 70:11 on a shot form 16 yards into the upper right corner of the goal. Keil has scored 12 goals in her Willamette career, including three goals this fall and nine goals since the start of the 2017 season.

Warner Pacific battled on a more even level with Willamette for parts of the second half, but the Bearcats still outshot the Knights 9-4 over the final 45 minutes of play. WPU's only shot on target was taken by Joie Lopez just 30 seconds after Keil scored Willamette's second goal. The shot by Lopez was saved by Grasiela Quevedo-Ramos (So., GK, Salem, OR/West Salem HS). Willamette gained a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Three Willamette goalies combined for the Bearcats' third shutout of the year. Starting goalie Kristen Barclay (Jr., GK, Kenmore, WA/Cedar Park Christian School) played the entire first half. Quevedo-Ramos entered the goal at the start of the second half and played 34:40. Jordan Roue (Fr., GK, San Jose, CA/Prospect HS) was in goal for the final 10:20.

The Bearcats will play at home again on Saturday, Sept. 8 when they will battle against Chapman College (Calif.). Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. (PDT).
