Willamette Falls to #11-Ranked Trinity (Texas), 3-0, during game in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. -- Willamette University took on #11-ranked Trinity University (Texas) on Sunday, Sept. 15 in a women's soccer game at East Field on the University of Puget Sound campus. Trinity won the game, 3-0. The Tigers improved to 4-1 on the season, while Willamette dropped to 1-3. The Bearcats' four opponents have achieved a combined record of 14-5-1.

The game featured plenty of quality defense by both teams, but the Tigers were able to strike on two of their eight corner kicks. Trinity finished with nine shots and the Bearcats earned three shots. The Tigers held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Willamette's shots were by Aoi Sawanobori (So., M, Kofu, Japan/TIUA), Sydney Wilson (So., M, Olympia, WA/Capital HS) and Gena Main (Sr., F, San Francisco, CA/Gateway HS/Bryn Mawr College).

Jessica Young scored the first goal for Trinity midway through the first half at 27:45 on a header near the goal following a corner kick. The Tigers retained a 1-0 lead at halftime. Kristen Coniglione tacked on another header goal at 50:03 after a corner kick. Lindsey Peng recorded an assist on both goals.

The game's final goal was earned by Emma Everts on an assist from Sarah Evans at 74:22. Willamette goalkeeper Kristen Barclay (Sr., GK, Kenmore, WA/Cedar Park Christian School) was able to deflect the shot, but not enough to send it wide of the goal.

Barclay and Trinity goalie Paige Wallace were credited with one save each during the game. The teams combined for 26 total fouls. Trinity was called for 15 fouls, including 12 in the second half.

The Bearcats will play at home on Saturday, Sept. 21 against archrival Linfield College. Game time at Sparks Field is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).
