Featured Senior: Kristen Barclay

Kristen Barclay

What was your most memorable moment throughout your career at Willamette?

Getting third place in a tournament this spring for golf. For soccer, it was my penalty kick save against Lewis & Clark at home this year because it kept us in the lead and helped us win the game.

Describe your feelings when you found out the season was canceled

I was heartbroken. Since I play soccer in the fall, I do not get the fall golf season. I was only able to play in two tournaments in my senior year. I was really looking forward to this season because I was off to the best start that I have ever had.

How have you been handling life in quarantine? Are you home or on campus? What's it like learning online and not having practice?

I'm extremely bored. I have remained in Salem. I am only in one class, so not having golf to take up my extra time has really made the transition to quarantine difficult. I am slowly finding things to fill the time. I have been painting a lot.

If you could leave one piece of advice for future Bearcats, what would it be?

Really appreciate and take in every moment of every practice and game. You never know when the last time you will compete will be.

What are your future plans following graduation?

I plan to work for the King County Sheriff's Department after graduation.

From their teammates

What was your most memorable moment of Kristen?

Caroline Adams (SOC): The countless times that she wore her Spongebob costume!

Kiki Fierstos (GOLF): KB wearing her Spongebob costume

Jordan Roue (SOC): Her many, many injuries ... all the times I gave her Advil, but most importantly, that one time she broke her armpit.

How has Kristen impacted you in your sport or in life?

Caroline Adams (SOC): KB has been there for me whenever I need her, no questions asked. She will drop everything for a friend who's hurting, and that's something I want to carry on, myself.

Meghan Hook (GOLF): KB is a two-sport athlete, and is a baller at both of her sports. She was able to roll right out of soccer season and show up to golf season playing the best she had in her life.

What makes Kristen special?

Kiki Fierstos (GOLF): KB is always happy and also very sarcastic.

Meghan Hook (GOLF): KB is unapologetically herself at all times, making her a grade A+ meme. You can always count on her for a laugh.

Is there anything Kristen brought to the program that will have a lasting impact?

Caroline Adams (SOC): KB has always been so welcoming to our first-years, even when she was a senior. It's a really great quality to have and uphold.

Jordan Roue (SOC): The amount of stick whittling, gilly suit-wearing, and Spongebob loving will never again be so high on this team.
