SALEM, Ore. -- Claire Wright of George Fox University scored a goal at 18:06 and the Bruins held on for a 1-0 victory over Willamette University in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, March 27. The win at Sparks Field improved GFU to 3-2 on the season, 3-2 in the NWC. Willamette went to 1-4 overall, 1-4 in the NWC.

The defenses from both teams limited quality chances for much of the game. George Fox ended the afternoon with an 8-5 edge in total shots and a 4-2 margin in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Annalisa Klein provided the Bruins with two saves while recording the shutout. WU starting goalie Grasiela Quevedo-Ramos (Sr., Salem, OR/West Salem HS) earned two saves. Jordan Roue (Jr., San Jose, CA/Prospect HS) registered one save for the Bearcats in the second half.

Wright scored following a Willamette clearing attempt near the top of the six-yard box. The ball deflected to Wright, who tapped it into the net from four yards out near the right post.

Neither team scored during the rest of the game, but Willamette almost earned a tying goal in the second half. Isabel Duxbury (Sr., D, Seattle, WA/University Prep) hit the crossbar with a shot from 25 yards at 66:48.

Lindsay Sandy of GFU led all players with four total shots. Five Bearcats each took one shot for Willamette. Willamette gained a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Both teams played clean and competitively. The only yellow card issued went to Sandy late in the first half at 43:00.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, March 31, when they will host Lewis & Clark College at Sparks Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (PDT).
