SALEM, Ore. -- Ella McComas (Fy., F, Seattle, WA/Cleveland HS) scored twice on assists from Ella Abraham (Jr., F, Lexington, KY/Lafayette HS), as Willamette University defeated Evergreen State College, 2-0, in an exhibition women's soccer game for the Bearcats on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The game, played at Sparks Field on the WU campus, counted for Evergreen State. The Geoducks fell to 0-2 on the season.

Willamette will start its regular season on Friday, Sept. 1 with a road game at Chapman University. Game time in Orange, California, is set for 7 p.m. (PDT).

McComas registered Willamette's goals late in the first half at 37:14 and with just under fifteen minutes remaining in the game at 74:51. Both goals were set up by crosses from the left side by Abraham. The first scoring play led to a five-yard shot by McComas into the middle of the net. The goal in the second half was scored when McComas shot from six yards near the left post, using her heel to send the ball across the line.

Evergreen State goalie Anna Varela slightly deflected Abraham's pass on the goal in the first half, but the ball went directly to McComas. Goalie Amity Brookshire of ESC, who played in the second half, partially deflected the pass that set up McComas' second goal. The well-struck, line-drive pass from Abraham went to McComas, who completed the play.

Willamette's defense limited Evergreen State to just six shots and no shots on goal. WU goalies Sam Borngasser (Jr., GK, Grants Pass, OR/Grants Pass HS) and Siera Edwards (So., GK, Portland, OR/Sunset HS) each played 45 minutes and did not have to make a save. Varela, who dropped to 0-2 with the loss, recorded one save for the Geoducks in the first half. Brookshire made five saves for ESC in the second half.

The Bearcats produced a 16-6 advantage in total shots, including 8-0 in shots on goal. WU took eight shots in each half, while all six of Evergreen's shots were in the second half. Each team registered three corner kicks.
