YAKIMA, WASH. -- Lewis & Clark College won the top two singles matches and the top two doubles matches on on its way to a 5-3 victory over Willamette University to take fifth place at the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, Friday, April 18 at the Yakima Tennis Club. L&C finished the season at 12-8, while Willamette concluded its schedule at 8-13.
Alyssa Morrison (So., Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) and Samantha Wong (So., Honolulu, HI/Iolani School) won #3 doubles for the Bearcats. They achieved an 8-3 victory over Alix Dixon and Mika Yokoyama.
Willamette also received singles victories from Alaine Anderson (Sr., Santa Ana, CA/Foothill HS) at the #3 position and from Abby Funabiki (Jr., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS/Quinnipiac University) at the #4 position. Anderson defeated Whitney DeBree, 6-1, 6-1. Funabiki held off Paige Earhart for a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
The Pioneers won #1 doubles with Amalia Nilsson and DeBree outscoring Anderson and Jamie Slonaker (Fr., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS), 8-5. L&C also took the top singles match, as Nilsson downed Tiffany Kam (Sr., Pearl City, HI/Punahou School), 6-1, 6-0. Nilsson was 16-0 in NWC singles matches during the regular season.
