WU to Host Wilson/ITA Women's Tennis Small College Regional

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team is set to host the Wilson/ITA Women's Tennis Small College Northwest Regional, Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30 at the WU Tennis Courts and the Salem Tennis Club. In the event of inclement weather, some or all of the competition may be moved to the Courthouse Tennis Club.

All nine Northwest Conference teams have entries in the Wilson/ITA Regional. A total of 53 athletes are entered in the singles draw and 26 teams are included in the doubles draw. Action begins at 9 a.m. (PDT) all three days.

In singles, Kasey Kuenzli of Linfield College is seeded #1. She is followed by Amalia Nilsson of Lewis & Clark College, who is seeded #2, while Erika Feltus of Pacific Lutheran University is seeded #3. Other seeded players in singles are Lisa Harunaga of Lewis & Clark at #4, Hadley Debree of Whitman at #5, Tiffany Kam (Sr., Pearl City, HI/Punahou School) of Willamette at #6, Kelli Sides of Linfield at #7, Alaine Anderson (Sr., Santa Ana, CA/Foothills HS) of Willamette at #8, Ashley Coats of Pacific Lutheran at #9, Katie Schultz from the University of Puget Sound at #10, Katie Staudinger of Whitworth at #11 and Heather Orr of George Fox University at #12.

The top-seeded doubles team is formed by Sallie Katter and Kuenzli of Linfield. Seeded #2 is the team of Harunaga and Nilsson of Lewis & Clark and seeded #3 is the team of Coats and Feltus of Pacific Lutheran. Other seeded double teams are Kam and Anderson of Willamette at #4, Debree and Kaur of Whitman at #5 and Alyssa Morrison (So., Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) and Becca Younger (Jr., Albuquerque, NM/Sandia Prep) at #6.

Winners in singles and doubles at the Wilson/ITA Regional will advance into the ITA National Small College Championships presented by Outback Steakhouse and the United State Tennis Association. The ITA National Small College Championships are set for Oct. 11-14, 2007 in Mobile, Alabama.
