Willamette Rolls Past Pacific Lutheran, 8-1

TACOMA, WASH. -- Willamette University won all three doubles matches and took five of six singles matches, as the Bearcats defeated Pacific Lutheran University, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Friday, March 6. WU improved to 2-6 overall, 2-5 in the NWC. Pacific Lutheran remained winless at 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the NWC.

Bearcat freshman Shannon Palmer (Salem, OR/Sprague HS), who missed the past four matches due to an injury, returned to action against the Lutes. She won #1 singles over Ashley Brooks, 6-1, 6-3. Palmer and Abby Funabiki (Sr., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS/Quinnipiac Univ.) were victorious at #1 doubles against Brooks and Ashley Coats of PLU, 8-6.

Willamette's next matches are on Sunday, March 8 at the Courthouse Tennis Club in Salem, Ore. The Bearcats will host the College of Idaho at 8 a.m. (PDT) and will take on George Fox University at 4 p.m.
