    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior Shannon Palmer (Salem, OR/Sprague HS) has been chosen First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2011-12 season, as selected by the NWC head coaches. Willamette players Sabrina Gutierrez (So., Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park HS) and Denise Poltavski (Fr., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS) were named Second Team All-NWC.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Whitman College defeated Willamette University, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday, April 7 at the Whitman Outdoor Courts. Whitman, ranked #10 in the West Region of NCAA Division III, improved to 13-4 overall, 8-2 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 6-8 overall, 4-6 in the NWC. Due to illness involving two of Willamette's players, the Bearcats had to default at #5 and #6 singles as well as at #3 doubles. Willamette's lone win was at #4 singles, as Emily Funabiki (So., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS) defeated Erin Minuth of the Missionaries in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.

    SPOKANE, WASH. -- Whitworth University built a 3-0 lead in doubles and then added wins at four singles positions, including two three-set victories, as the Pirates downed Willamette University, 7-2, at the Scotford Tennis Center on Friday, April 6. Overall, four singles matches reached a third set, with each team claiming two triumphs.

    SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Trinity University (Texas), ranked #13 in the nation and #2 in the West Region of NCAA Division III, defeated Willamette University, ranked #13 in the West Region, 9-0, behind the efforts of four regionally-ranked players. The Tigers upped their record to 9-5, while Willamette dipped to 5-6.

The Boxers moved to 4-1 on the season, 3-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 2-2 overall, 0-2 in the NWC.

The Missionaries evened their overall record at 2-2, including 1-1 in the NWC. Willamette, which lost for the first time this season, fell to 2-1 overall, 0-1 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team has received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award for the 2010-11 season as a result of the Bearcats' efforts in the classroom. In order to qualify for the award, the Bearcats needed to achieve a team cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
